Welcome to the Special Education Department of Capital High School

Hello!It is my pleasure to Welcome you to the Special Education department of Capital High School. I am the department head Cynthia Philips. I have been head of this department for 9 years. The mission statement for this department is "We believe that every child can learn and become a productive citizen. We believe in the individual and that each individual can become a part of a workable team."

We have established a reading program which is great to those who have though time reading and who has scored below the reading level. We have established the PEAS program ( work simulation which is accomplished by our work foundation as a department.

We are trying to establish a volunteer reading class, we need people who could volunteer an hour a day to help our students. Reading is so important and sometimes we are without the man power to help so many.

We have high expectations for all our students and they are part of Capital High School we push and support our students in their education endeavors. We like to celebrate the success of our Christmas Store which is operated by the classrooms of Ms. Sears, Mrs. Peel, and Mr. Slappe.
